SEO Checklist for Web Developers

The checklist is more of a developers’ guide to check for in-site optimization and can be helpful during website launch. Do share your feedback in the comments below:

  1. Website added to Google Search Console & Bing Webmaster Tools
  2. Robot.txt Updated
  3. Fetch as Google Bot Tested
  4. Sitemap Submitted to Google & Bing Webmaster Tools
  5. Structured Data – Implemented
Test that requisite data-tags according to the website are integrated. Use Google Structured Data Testing Tool. Common entities are articles, products, blogpost, events, recipes etc
  6. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) in place
With Google hinting on going mobile first and giving more visibility to AMPs , it’s now time to add them into the checklist.
  7. Canonical & Basic Meta Tags Added
Avoid duplicate content penalty by using canonical URLs. Google uses Meta Description in search results so it should be well optimized.

Bonus

  1. Facebook Open Graph Integrated
  2. Twitter Cards Integrated
  3. Google Customized Site Features (breadcrumbs, site name, sitelinks search box).
  4. Pinterest Rich Pins added
  5. Google Knowledge Graph , if it is relevant

The list is by no means complete, however I have tried to keep it simple and logical. The list gets periodically updated to keep it relevant and handy. Do share your remarks and suggestions.
